Description: This abstract work, previously exhibited at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles (엘에이 한국 문화원), is a deeply nostalgic reflection on Korean heritage and personal memory.
The foundation of the piece is the symbolic pairing of the Orchid (난초)—representing nobility and scholarly refinement—with the window paper (Changhoji, 창호지)—a humble yet essential element of traditional Korean homes.
The entire 48 x 48 inch panel is a canvas for abstractly expressing my childhood fascination with the process of pasting Changhoji onto the doorframes—a cherished ritual. The textures and abstract forms capture the memory of applying the glue, the smell of the paper, and the light filtering through the finished screen. It is an exploration of that tender, textural past, where the delicate presence of the Orchid’s elegance meets the quiet, resilient beauty of a shared cultural memory.

48 x 48인치 패널 전체는 창호지를 문틀에 바르던 어린 시절의 매혹적인 과정을 추상적으로 표현합니다. 풀칠을 하고 문에 바르던 그 추억의 모습들을 그린 것입니다. 작품의 질감과 추상적인 형태들은 풀 냄새, 종이를 다루던 감촉, 그리고 완성된 창호지를 통해 걸러지던 빛의 기억을 포착합니다. 난초의 섬세한 우아함이 공유된 문화적 기억인 창호지의 고요하고 강인한 아름다움과 만나는, 부드럽고 질감 가득한 과거에 대한 탐구입니다.
