Description: This artwork is an homage to Masala, the beloved rooster who was our family's unexpected, truthful, and joyful companion. The title itself—Masala, the word for spice mix—reflects how he brought an essential flavor and abundance of laughter to my children's formative years.
I used a dense foundation of layered green acrylic and vibrant pink and gold Hanji to capture the deep, fantastic realm Masala occupied in our family life. The thickness and color of the medium truly express the profound impact he had on my kids' imaginations.
Masala was not just a pet; he was a life companion—a rooster who would walk into our bedroom to wake the kids with hugs, and greet us at the door with a joyous jump. The inclusion of the pair of chopsticks serves as a quiet, structural symbol of his place at our family table and within our daily life. This geometry of affection grounds the vibrant, almost surreal presence of Masala, honoring his role as our forever companion whose memory is woven into the very fabric of our home.
